HANNA: Hey, Brado! Why are you so sad today?
BRADO: I have failed in university exam.
HANNA: You are very intelligent and you had prepared well.
BRADO: And my many dull-minded class fellows, who just copied, have passed.
HANNA: This is the problem with most of the universities in the world. Asses get more degrees than intelligent students.
BRADO: I am feeling very frustrated. People who don’t know about a subject often get certificates and degrees.
HANNA: I don’t accuse all the examiners, but a large number of them are not capable enough. They can understand and check copied answers more easily. Thus many deserving students like you are not evaluated properly.
BRADO: Why don’t they change the examination system?
HANNA: Many universities are changing. But compete overhauling of any system is not an easy task.
BRADO: Some of my friends told that they paid a certain amount of money to their centre in-charge and they were allowed to copy answers.
HANNA: Though it is a black spot on the reputation of universities yet we are helpless.
BRADO: I think I must leave study. My heart is broken.
HANNA: Why don’t you apply for re-checking?
BRADO: Last year I applied but they told that marking was absolutely correct. To save their reputation they were telling a lie.
HANNA: Then, you have to re-appear. There is no other way.

Doing MBA from Harvard Business School
Reema: I have an ambition to go to USA and pursue MBA from Harvard Business School.
Inder: I think you do not need to go to USA. Now, Indian Institutes are matching the quality of Harvard Business School.
Reema: You are really crazy if you are saying so. My uncle did his MBA from Harvard ten years ago and now he is General Manager of a multinational company in Bangalore.
Inder: In which world are you living? Indian Institute of Management has gained a good reputation now. Young people of India are not much interested in pursuing MBA from Harvard Business School anymore.
Reema: It means you have decided to go for CAT.
Inder: Definitely! CAT (Common Aptitude Test) has become the most competitive and most sought-after exam in India. And, IIM is now world-famous for its quality education.
Inder: I agree that IIM is gaining reputation but you can never compare its quality to the quality of HBS.
Inder: In my opinion, if you can get a quality thing in your own country you need not go to any other country.

Should Children be Punished at Schools?
Anju: Most of the parents think that it is necessary to punish the children now and then. But I think it is inhuman. What do you think Jatin?
Jatin: My friend Manish says that his parents used to punish him hard to reform him. He was often slapped and beaten with a stick. He still loves his parents. He thinks that his parents used these methods to make him a good boy and brighten his future.
Mona: What is he doing? Is he wise and intelligent?
Jatin: He is doing his MBA. He is really a brilliant boy. I don't see any negative impression on his psychology.
Hitesh: By giving one example you can't justify violence against children. It may be an exception or he may be carrying with him invisible grudges (a feeling of resentment or anger).
Anju: Children are tender and very sensitive. Any type of physical punishment will definitely have a negative impact on their psychology.
Mona: I agree that too much of everything is certainly bad. But if parents don't punish the children they may develop bad habits and spoil their future. Fear of the parents is necessary to maintain an atmosphere of discipline. Without discipline nothing worthwhile (sufficiently valuable, useful) can be achieved in life.
Anju: Discipline induced (to persuade or move to action) by fear is always counter-productive. It dampens your enthusiasm and mental faculties. Such children can't make much progress in life.
Jatin: I have seen many families where children are never punished. They are loved and nurtured with utmost care. Still they disrespect their parents, fall in bad company, bunk classes, wander on bikes and waste hard-earned money of their parents.
Hitesh: I don't agree that parents' lenient attitude or considerate nature is responsible at all. Probably such parents were unable to sow the seeds of good etiquette. They sometimes set bad examples before the children. Or they themselves lack self control or discipline. If you yourself are undisciplined you can not teach discipline to others.
Mona: But I yet have to see a person who can maintain discipline without creating an atmosphere of fear. Nobody listens to a soft man. Instead he is laughed at.
Hitesh: It is ridiculous. I have yet to meet a successful person who is not soft-spoken or considerate. Who appreciates a roaring or ruthless leader.
Anju: I think we must move now as our next class is about to start.

Admission of a Child in School
Vandana: Hello Preeti, how are you? It seems you are a little worried.
Preeti: Yes, I am worried about the admission of my son. I don’t know what I should do.
Vandana: Why are you worrying? You can get him admitted in any good English medium school.
Preeti: I also want, but most of the good public schools demand huge donations, which lower middle class people like us can’t afford.
Vandana: Then why don’t you consider over a govt. school for him?
Preeti: In fact, the standard of education is not good in govt. schools. Although the teachers of these schools get good salaries yet they don’t take much interest in teaching the students. They are only interested in taking tuitions and earning more money.
Vandana: You are right Preeti. Due to that reason I got my children admitted in a public school. But even public schools are not perfect. My children have to take tuitions. And there are so much expenses that we find it difficult to make both ends meet.
Preeti: It is generally said that standard of education is much better in public schools than in govt. schools.
Vandana: I don’t think coaching is good in every public school. Though there are a few schools which really try hard to maintain a good reputation.
Preeti: But it is not easy to get the children admitted in those schools. And people like us can’t even meet the expenses.
Vandana: Yeah, it is true. Still we can’t say that those schools guarantee bright career for the students or freedom from headaches for the parents. You have to take pain and be careful even then.
Preeti: All these things have made me very confused and worried.
Vandana: Why don’t you get your son admitted in a govt. model school. These schools are similar to some good public schools.
Preeti: (Happily) It can solve my problem. I think a model school can be the best for my son under present circumstances. Will you accompany me to the nearest model school? I shall be thankful to you.
Vandana: Oh sure! Please come to my home at 8 am. But do talk to your husband first.

Stress of Board Exams on Students
Uncle: Raju! What are you doing?
Raju: Good evening uncle! I am watching a movie.
Uncle: Good evening my son! So now you are out of exam stress.
Raju: Yes uncle. It was a long and stressful period. I need some fun now to relax my mind.
Uncle: Have you performed well in all the papers?
Raju: I am satisfied with my performance although I had to leave 10 marks questions in Mathematics and 15 marks questions in Science papers.
Uncle: Didn’t you know the answers?
Raju: I knew all the answers but due to lack of time I was unable to write the answers.
Uncle: It happens with most of the students. How many marks do you expect?
Raju: I expect above 80% marks because I have written good answers.
Uncle: What will you do in your vacation now?
Raju: I shall improve my communication skills in English because without it there is no future. Nobody can get a good job anywhere. Actually I lack fluency in speaking.
Uncle: It’s a good idea. What do you intend to do after your result?
Raju: I want to do BCA. I shall also join a diploma course in software engineering.
Uncle: It’s an IT era. So many young men are crazy to ride the wave.
Raju: India is a rising economy, and second biggest in software engineering. This field is full of good opportunities.
Uncle: The bell is ringing. Open the door. Probably your dad has come.
